Comments: Been here twice. Ordered ala carte first time, the tasting menu second time. Service was leisurely and friendly, although both servers I had seemed intent on eliciting raves for the food from me ("Wasn't that fabulous?"). It didn't happen. Plate presentations are out of this world, probably the most striking in KC. Quality (freshness) of ingredients is a little in question, had some oysters and scallops that were funky. Alot of finesse in the preparations but it seemed everything needed salt, and I'm not a big salt guy. Flavors in some cases were very muted, if subtlety is their goal, they have achieved it, move on to bold flavors. Also most items were undersauced (in quantity), which would've helped the seasoning issue. As for dessert, the pastry chef has a thing for little cakes. I've tried three different ones and they were all tough, dry and unappealing. The other components on the dessert plates were good but didn't make up for the cakes. Recommendations- Try the foie gras (any preparation), Order ala carte (tatsting menu can be weird), Haddock with Black Trumpets excellent, Stay away from the cakey desserts. All in all, better than the American or 40 Sardines. Owners need to do more tableside PR.

Food: substandardNotes: Different, not my cup of tea
Service: poorNotes: waitress spilled drinks, forgot orders
Favorites: Used to be Chicken Sandwich
Comments: When they 1st opened under the name Big Cedar, the service was excellent. Since the name/management changed, the service is terrible! There was even a dead fly in the mashed potatoes

Comments: Have not had one good experience yet. Portions are small for the price. Service is usually slow, as is cooking times. (Did they go across town to kill the cow!) Bill is always incorrect-always check for extra soft drinks or entre-happend twice!) Used to go every week after HS volleyball games-now it's only if someone wants to give them a change to redeem

Food: **** superbNotes: short menu, high quality!
Service: ** very goodNotes: Partly self serve/you order at a counter, they bring it out.

Comments: Partner had the vegetarian lasagna, said it was wonderful too. All the selections sound wonderful, they have a weekly salad and soup special, rest of menu is pretty much a standing menu.

Ambience: *** excellentNotes: dark, quiet, clean
Food: *** excellentNotes: unusual twists on favortie dishes
Service: ** very goodNotes: different servers deliver a variance of service
Favorites: calzone; chocolate pots; coffee; creme brulee; all salad dressings
Comments: One of my favorite places in Kansas City! I always encourage my friends to skip the Cheesecake Factory and head to Classic Cup for classier service and homemade food. I have NEVER been unimpressed with a meal. The fresh pressed coffee is a real treat. The service was great despite our arrival at closing time. Patio seating and a charming bar make this a great first date destination!

Restaurant: Corner CafeLocation: Riverside - us169 and mo 9
Cuisine: americanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: country
Food: *** excellentNotes: served hot, huge portions
Service: ** very goodNotes: efficient and friendly
Favorites: tenderloin
Comments: This is what Carcker Barrel would like to be! Except the Corner Cafe has larger portions, lesser prices, better flavor, and faster service. Tenderloins are huge, thick and flavorful. Gravy is like Grandma used to make. Come here if you're hungry for good home-cooking. Food was served hot, quick, and with a smile. I'll be coming back here often. Come before 11:30 for lunch-the word is out-this place is worth the money and the wait.

Food: **** superbNotes: Homemade, large portions
Service: *** excellentNotes: Usually busy, yet always attentive
Favorites: big 'b' breakfast
Comments: Enough food to see you through a chunk of the day. My mom made 2 meals out of a $5 order of chicken and egg noodles which she said was the best she'd had since before her mom died (the ultimate complement). Almost everything on the menu is under $10. I've had breakfast there several times and lunch once and have never been dissapointed.

Restaurant: Countryside Family DiningLocation: Odessa
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: **** superbNotes:
Food: **** superbNotes: Food is fresh and served family style
Service: **** superbNotes: Servers are very friendly
Favorites: Country Fried Steak
Comments: This restaurant could be compared to a Cracker Barrel, in that it has a gift shop and flows along that family dining cuisine. Countryside however starts off your meal with a complimentary vegetable tray, soup, and salad. However I enjoy the endless family sized bowls of side dishes including mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, etc. There is something wholesome about going to a restaurant, but still passing bowls around the table.

Favorites: Everything I've tried
Comments: I live in Colorado and recently visited New Mexico. I discovered Southwestern cuisine - quality, eclectic dishes with Southwestern spices - at least that's the way I would describe it. It's not Mexican, it's not Tex-Mex, it's New Mexican. I've been tired of the standard Mexican dishes for years - a burrito is generally just a burrito. While visiting family in KC a couple years ago, I discovered that KC had its own restaurant serving Southwestern cuisine at the Coyote Grill. I try to go there every time I'm in town because the food is delicious. There's an appetizer with roasted garlic and cheese that is incredible. I can't recommend the calamari steak, but everything else is amazing. They also serve the best margaritas I've ever had - they use lime juice and high quality tequila instead of sweet and sour mix. I've even started ordering margaritas with lime juice at other restaurants. I recommend the Heradura tequila.

Comments: We should have foreseen the disaster awaiting us as we were shown to our table and heard customers asking for service! Our server had the "deer in the headlights" while taking our order, and we never saw her again! Someone else brought our meals to the table. We asked for an item and it was never brought to us. We finally found an asst mgr to found what we needed. Terrible! Never will go back!

Cuisine: Eclectic - American BistroPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Terrazo tile floor. Exhibition kitchen for "pizza salads"
Food: *** excellentNotes: Grilled Cesar Salad....Romain Grilled
Service: * averageNotes: Server was somewhat disorganized
Favorites: Free Range Chicken-Fillet in Zinfandel sauce
Comments: Service was somewhat slow. Was Christmas Eve...Restaurant was busy. Server seemed disorganized. She seemed to get flustered when we asked for more drinks from the bar. One in our party asked for a Pina Colada. Server said she did not know if that was a drink they made. Food was great. The grilled ceasar salad is just that. The romaine is grilled prior to serving. Different presentation but I did enjoy it. A little too expensive for the price on cocktails. Three bourbons was 25.00. Will go back because of food quality.

Comments: I first visited Fedora 10 years ago, and that had been the only time until now. My wife and I decided to try it since she had not been there before. The hostess appeared put out to seat us. The service was very slow. We waited over 15 minutes for a waiter to tell us he be back in a minute. 15 minutes later he took our drink orders. It should be noted the resturant was at best 20% occupied. Several times the waiter could not be found for long periods. My coffee was cold by time my dessert arrived. Total dinner time was an hour and a half, most of that spend waiting for service! Food was good, not great, considering the price, it was a disappointment. I guess it will be another 10 years until I forget this experience and try Fedora again.

Ambience: ** very goodNotes: _

Service: poorNotes: not a well motivated staff
Favorites: did not get to eat dinner, see comments below.
Comments: Fitz Grill, a new Lees Summit restaurant. Upon walking in we were told the wait was going to be "at least an hour and a half." The employee working the front counter made it more than obvious that she did not want us to wait around. We did, and were seated in less than thirty minutes. Ten minutes after placing our order, our waitress came back and informed me that they were out of what I had ordered. To make it easy, I ordered a Peanut Butter Hamburger-well done. Dinner came, and our appetizer never did. My burger was dripping blood from being way undercooked, and had absolutely NO peanut butter on it. I am VERY disappointed with the food, as well as the service. I will not be patronizing this establishment anytime soon, and I would caution those who demand the highest quality of customer service to look elsewhere in Lees Summit.

Comments: We were promptly seated and handed a menu. The room was so dark and the prices on the menu were so light that it was impossible to make out the prices. We ordered, but did not receive what we ordered. The food tasted horrible. We paid by credit card and left a cash tip. After receiving the credit card statement, we found that the waitress had added a $5.00 tip to our bill, even though we had crossed out the tip line and left a cash tip. Needless to say, we will never go to this place again.

Restaurant: Fritz's Railroad RestaurantLocation: 250 N. 18th, Kansas City, Kansas
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $ bargain
Ambience: *** excellentNotes: Train delivers your food
Food: * averageNotes: Basic burgers and fries
Service: ** very goodNotes: Friendly
Favorites: Gen Dare (hamburger with cheese, grilled onions, hash browns on it)
Comments: This place is so neat that you have to see it for yourself. The ceiling of this restaurant is encircled by a train track and your order is delivered by a train that drops it on a platform that then lowers to your table. You order from your booth via a phone and the waitress brings your drinks and your meal comes by the aforementioned train. The track runs above every booth so you get to see everyone elses food be delivered too. Sounds like a corny concept but my 3 year old went wild (as were the other kids there) so it is a great place to take kids. They gave him an engineers hat and kids get to blow the whistle that signals a meal delivery is on its way. Food is basic hamburgers and fries type. Good but average. Prices not bad. Don't go for the food, go for the show! Something fun and different! They also serve breakfast. Open 6AM-9PM Monday thru Saturday. Closed Sunday. They also have a location in Crown Center I am told but we have never been there.
