Restaurant: HootersLocation: Noland Road
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: I'm a girl--most of the guys love the ambience
Food: *** excellentNotes: Great wings
Service: poorNotes: If you have a female in your party, don't expect good service
Favorites: Three-mile-island wings
Comments: Hooters has some of the best wings in Kansas City. The atmosphere is very casual, and the only complaint I've heard about it is that the bar stools are uncomfortable. The servers are more attentive to predominately male parties, but what do you expect...that's where they get the big tips. The wings are more than worth it. Oh, and if you are a girl and you don't want to take your man because of all the tiny outfits on servers, don't worry about it. You are probably cuter than they are. It's not what you expect. Also, the ones with the big--you know--usually also have big butts and thighs to go with them. The others look like little boys. Take your man there and enjoy the wings!!

Restaurant: HootersLocation: Overland Park near 106th
Cuisine: Wings and BurgersPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Well, you know Hooters.....Sports bar...'nuff said.
Food: ** very goodNotes: Best wings anywhere. Great burgers, Grouper , BUFF SHRIMP!!
Service: * averageNotes:
Favorites: Buffalo Shrimp, Grouper Sandwich, Hamburger, Buffalo Wings, Daytona Wings
Comments: One little-known secret at the Hooters in Overland Park is that some of the cooks know how to make "Daytona Wings"; a sweet, barbecue wing. These are sticky and delicious. If the cooks have time to make you up a batch, order them. They are great. Contrary to what many people say, I haven't had better wings than Hooters anywhere in the country. Even the other Hooters wings aren't as good as Hooters Overland Park. The Fried grouper sandwich is the best fish sandwich you will find in the country, and, well...the Buffalo Shrimp is fantastic. Hey have carryout, ya know.....order out and spare yourself the noise and indifferent service.

Restaurant: Ivy'sLocation: 240 NE Barry Road, Kansas City, MO
Cuisine: steaks, seafood, chickenPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: varies from loud to quiet depending on seating
Food: * averageNotes: OK. Part of meal (crab) never brought but charged for it.
Service: * averageNotes: service good 18% standard gratuity added groups of 2 or more
Favorites: steak, crab
Comments: Located in a strip mall, unimpressive on the outside but dim lights and soft music are nice depending on where you are seated. Very overpriced for what you get. Expect to spend at least $100 for 2 dinners and plain and 1 salad. (Alcoholic beverages are expensive.) 18% gratuity is not advertized but is added to bill for 2 or more people. Much better deals elsewhere for the same price. e.g. Pierpont's, Starker's Private Reserve, American Restaraunt, Morton's of Chicago, Lydia's, Hereford House, etc... Management does not assist with problems.

This place is always busy at lunch-come early, after 11:45, you may be waiting for a table! Food was served hot, flavor was very good. Friday special is Prime Rib plate for $8-it is huge! Best lunch spot I've seen in downtown KC.

Restaurant: The Lodge Bar & Grill (previously Canyon Cafe)Location: Plaza
Cuisine: steaks, fishPrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: No different than when it was Canyon Cafe
Food: substandardNotes: Salmon was raw
Service: * averageNotes: _
Favorites: _
Comments: Ate here when it was Canyon Cafe, good chips/dip, food was good but woke up in middle of the nite, making many trips sitting on the toilet. We tried it again as The now Lodge Bar & Grill. They have 100+ wines by the glass if you're into wine. The salad was good with a variety of ingredients. My wife had buffalo steak & I had salmon. the Buffalo was very dry & chewy. . I started eating the outer parts of the salmon but got to the middle and it was raw. The waiter said "we serve our salmon medium to medium-well", I replied, I didn't know I had a choice. To me, salmon is cooked or it's sushi. We did get our dessert comped I presume because of the raw salmon. Other observation, is first impressions, the person who brought our food to the table was nice & he really seemed to be trying hard but, he made bringing out the food look very difficult and his hair was scraggly somewhat covering his face & he was sweating profusely from his face with drops of sweat on his nose as well. It makes a person wonder how much of his sweat we're eating & it's not something you want to see as he sets the plates on the table. Well, around 4:30 the next morning I again started making repeated trips sitting on the toilet. And if you're wondering, I am able to go out to dinner w/o getting diarrhea but just not here. Obviously we'll never go back again. They need to change more than just the restaurant name.

Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: *** excellentNotes: decorated in farming antiques and memoribilia
Food: ** very goodNotes: very tasty
Service: *** excellentNotes: servers are very attentive
Favorites: fried chicken, tenderloin
Comments: Restaurant is farming themed and the servers wear overalls or other farming type clothes. Side dishes are served family style and they never let you run out of bread or cole slaw. The service is excellent and they keep drinks filled and bowls full. All the food is fairly reasonably priced and very good. Nice gift shop too.

Cuisine: EclecticPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: small, but expanding
Food: *** excellentNotes:
Service: ** very goodNotes:
Favorites: mushroom <>
Comments: Once you get past the unlikely location, you're in for a treat. They do a "small plates" concept but you can elect to receive an entree-sized portion. The chef has a real way with fungi, so I highly recommend anything featuring them. Good cocktails, nice bar and live music. They're taking over the space next door, pending bureaucratic approval.

Cuisine: EclecticPrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Piano adds to the ambiance
Food: **** superbNotes: Everything was wonderful
Service: *** excellentNotes: A lot of attention
Favorites: Lobster Rangoon, Beef filet
Comments: I had never tried the small plate concept, but it was wonderful and I would do it again. You get a choice of 4 or 5 items for one price and can mix it up by having 5 appetizers or having a "normal" meal by choosing from each category. My friend and I tried each other's choices and Everything was wonderful!

Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: ** very goodNotes:
Food: * averageNotes:
Service: poorNotes: service is very uneven - can be good but is usually poor
Favorites: Curry Chicken Salad
Comments: Formerly Michael Forbes, the quality has declined yet the prices have increased. The most disappointing thing is their use of obviously instant mashed potatoes. For dinners in this price range, it is inexcusable. On a more positive note, the dinner rolls are heavenly.

Restaurant: Mill Creek BreweryLocation: Westport
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Noisy at nights, Sometimes hot & humid
Food: *** excellentNotes: Excellent, but preparation varies from night to night
Service: poorNotes:
Favorites: Chicken Nachos Appetizer
Comments: Great place, especially on Wednesday & Thursday late nights when all appetizers are priced 2 for 1. They have the best Chicken and/or Beef Nachos in Westport, far better than the more expensive ones at Harpos. The quantites range from good to excellent depending on what cook is on duty. The only downside is service. Be prepared to call in your order before you arrive, otherwise you are likely to sit at a table for an hour with no one to notice that you are there. If you are there for drinks at the bar, or to shoot pool, no problem - it is just that they don't pay a lot of attention to the dining room area. Catfish Paws are good, avoid the Chicken Tenders, they are dried out and not very appetizing. While they run Air Conditioning on hot humid evenings, they also unfortunately leave the doors open so it can get hot & humid inside.

Restaurant: Neighbor's CafeLocation: Lee's Summit
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $ bargain
Ambience: tackyNotes: Tables are crowded together. Decor very dull, unimaginative
Food: substandardNotes: Portions were a little less than average
Service: * averageNotes: Pretty fast for being so crowded/busy.
Favorites: none
Comments: Restaurant is small, very loud and noisy. Decor was very dull to look at, outdated and unimaginative - this restaurant needs an extreme makeover. You HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE KITCHEN to get to the tiny restroom! - it was pretty creepy back there! This restaurant is a little hole in the wall. Service was fine, but the food wasn't that great - I would never go back there and waste my money on the lousy food they serve - as bad as Denny's is, I think Denny's would be one notch above Neighbor's. Not impressed with Neighbor's at all. People who think their food is good must have never had GOOD food! On a scale of 1-10, Neighbor's gets a 2.

Restaurant: New Pointe GrillLocation: 47th and Roanoke, KCMO
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: * averageNotes: Small, rather chilly
Food: ** very goodNotes:
Service: poorNotes: Horrible service, snotty waitress
Favorites: Mussels, portabella appetizer
Comments: We went to New Pointe for my mother's 60th birthday. After waiting 15 minutes for our water, another 15 for the bread, our appetizers arrived (which were very good). The waitress (who had quite a bad attitude) failed to fill our glasses when they were empty and lied to me about the chicken I ordered). I am allergic to Rosemary and she reported that it did not have any Rosemary. When I asked the chef, he confirmed that it did. She made no effort to get me anything else, as I did not eat the chicken. Everyone else enjoye their food however, will not be back due to the service!

Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: *** excellentNotes: great family restaurant, classier than others
Food: *** excellentNotes:
Service: **** superbNotes:
Favorites: Sunday Brunch, california sandwich
Comments: Nick & Jakes has what I consider to be the best Sunday brunch in Kansas City. Several items include seafood and the desserts are superb. My recommendation is to start with desserts or you will never make it there with all of the choices! They have a balloon artist guy during brunch that keeps the entire family entertained--not just the kids! I've never seen anyone so talented. The service is always great, the food terrific, it's just a great place to take the entire family. The food outside of Sunday brunch is good and the pub is a great place to catch a game with friends. Was there recently for a charity event and it's great to see a place giving back to their community.

Service: *** excellentNotes: all staff members were very pleasant and helpful
Favorites: fish n chips
Comments: This was my first time to eat at O'Neils, though it had come highly recommended. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with smiling faces. The place was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. After a 5 minute wait, we were shown to our table and our waitress appeared almost immediately. She was very pleasant and helpful when we asked questions. The food was served in a timely manner. The fish n chips was wonderful, not greasy. The waffle fries were also very good. The brownie dessert was excellent. The manager came around as asked if everything was good. Overall, it was a great experience. I give this place 2 thumbs up!

Comments: We are always enjoyed this place when we are in a hurry for something healthy to eat. We also truly enjoy the completely smoke free environment. However, the last time we were there, the place did NOT smell clean. There was a terrible, rank odor! I wanted to tell the manager but didn't have the opportunity. Don't know if they used dirty mops or the carpet needs cleaning or where the odor was coming from, but it was so bad that I didn't even enjoy my meal. We may go again, but if the smell is still there, it may be the last time.

Cuisine: All you care to eat buffetPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes:
Food: * averageNotes:
Service: *** excellentNotes: Fast to seat us/fast to clear dishes
Favorites:
Comments: Got us seated very quickly (under 15 minutes) even though people were lined up out the door to get in. Food was average and not as many selections as we had remembered in our visits to Old Country Buffet restaurants in Des Moines. Might have just been us. Management was right up front working hard to get people seated and tables cleared for new diners asap. Was a little crowded but that is to be expected considering how busy they were. The only complaint was that the bathroom was dirty and unkept. Why is this the case with SO many of the restaurants in this town? Maybe because they have all their people busy with food service and cleanup is a low priority? Overall, an ok experience. If you go away hungry it is your own fault.
