Favorites: Pork burnt ends, onion straws.
Comments: We normally thoroughly enjoy our dining experience at KC Masterpiece. However, when we went last night, we were quite unimpressed with the experience. I believe they had a convention or reunion of some sort dining there, and we felt completely neglected. We went at 7:30 and didn't get done until 10:00 because of the slow service. I was frustrated to spend $34 on a meal that I couldn't really enjoy because of the especially loud atmosphere and lack of good service.

Restaurant: KC Masterpiece RestaurantLocation: Ward Parkway and Wyandotte
Cuisine: BarbequePrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: * averageNotes: cheap looking tables and chairs in dining areas
Food: * averageNotes: Unable to judge food adequately
Service: poorNotes: Extremely poor communication by host
Favorites:
Comments: Would not go to this restaurant again. They ran out of food before closing time, yet let us stand waiting for over an hour before telling us that they were out of just about everything. The host ignored us while we stood there, and only talked to us AFTER they had locked the doors an hour before normal closing time. A party of 6 had two steaks, two orders of Buffalo wings, two orders of bacon wrapped shrimp, 5 salads, and soft drinks. Total bill was over $100. Stay away from this place...it's not worth it.

Restaurant: KC MasterpieceLocation: Country Club Plaza
Cuisine: BBQPrice: $$$ moderate
Ambience: * averageNotes:
Food: *** excellentNotes: Succulent meats with just-right smoky taste.
Service: ** very goodNotes:
Favorites: any pork or beef
Comments: Was surprised by another reviewer's comments about slow service, as they were prompt and friendly on the busy evening we visited. Must note that I loathe cooked carrots, and when I asked the waitress to omit carrots from my smoked veggies, she said, "Absolutely!" My favorites: smoked pork tenderloin (dinner only), a sizable serving sliced into medallions. This came with smoked veggies (zucchini, purple onion, strng beans) on a bed of moist yellow rice. One caveat: the rolls were just average -- and NOT warm. But everything else was superb this trip!

Food: substandardNotes: The Brisket Was Terrible, Tough, Bland, Tasteless, And Hard
Service: poorNotes:
Favorites:
Comments: We decided to eat at K. C. Masterpiece last night and this was a poor decision on our part. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the beef brisket sandwich. The meat on the pork was overcooked and became more like hash or a sloppy-joe. The brisket, on the other hand was so tough that I had a lot of trouble cutting the sandwich in half, I had problems chewing the shoe leather. The taste was so bland, that I gave up and threw the $7.00 sandwich away. I was so sorry that we ordered to go because, we would never have paid dime one for this overrated excuse for barbeque. We will make sure not to subject our out of town guests and family to this food.

Comments: Not impressed. However, in light of the fact that the entire Kansas City area has no idea what real BBQ is supposed to taste like, this particular restaurant is no worse, or no better than the others.

Service: ** very goodNotes: Servers are friendly and very attentive.
Favorites: Baby back ribs
Comments: Wonderful servers, friendly looking college kids (minus the tats and piercings. Great food. Best baby back ribs ever, anywhere. Price was very reasonable. KC Masterpiece should franchise and open a place in So. Cal. or do mail order of ribs.

Food: substandardNotes: Food was cold
Service: poorNotes: Unbelievable Slow and waitress was not friendly
Favorites: Only the drinks!
Comments: We had a party of 34 and called ahead for reservations 5 days in advance (but found out after speaking with the hostess twice on the phone and arriving at the restaurant that they didn't take reservations) so the table wasn't ready and no one sat together. The service was EXTREMELY SLOW and some of the food was cold. I was beyond disappointed with the experience and it's an eye-opener to find that other reviews express such slow service as well. I hope someone from The Plaza location reads these reviews so they can make some improvements!!! And for anyone hoping to make reservations.... "They don't take reservations, only call ahead seating is available."

Restaurant: KC MasterpieceLocation: Plaza
Cuisine: BarbequePrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: tackyNotes: Too Small- Not Enough Waiting Area
Food: substandardNotes: Lost Appetite
Service: poorNotes: would disappear for long periods
Favorites: None
Comments: I was a main part in the party of 34, 2/14/04. I was the bride!!! Not only was it the first (and last) time being at this restaurant, but it was also my wedding night. We just married and had made reservations (or so we thought) to have an intimate reception. Nothing was pleasant at all from the time we arrived to the time we left. I am still very disappointed in the staff, service, and the manager!!!If there is a lack of communication, it should not inconvenience the customer. No one at the restaurant went out of their way to correct their error and my party of 34 suffered. Not to mention our server was transferred from the 119th location due to her bad service. On average a dissatisfied customer will tell 7-11 people about their bad experience. Bottom line-I will never ever recommend KC Masterpiece and still hold a grudge against them ruining my wedding night!!! Thank you.

Comments: There are much better Bar B Q places in KC, this is the one to skip for sure. 30 min to order another 30 to get meal. Was not ever asked if any more to drink, everything OK? Would only go back if meal was to go & FREE!

Restaurant: KC MasterpieceLocation: Overland Park
Cuisine: BarbequePrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: noisy
Food: substandardNotes: dried out
Service: poorNotes: took over 1 hour to get meal
Favorites: pork
Comments: Took over 1 hour to get our food after ordering. My friend ordered milk with his young child's meal and was told that they were out of milk. Once finally got food, it was cold and meat was tough. Service was terrible with no acknowledgement of long wait. Waitress messed up one of our meal orders to add insult to injury. Used to love this place, but will never go back again.

Service: poorNotes: Staff was rude & completely incompetent
Favorites: _
Comments: This is a terrible place to go. The setting itself is ok. The staff is horrible!!! They were rude and completely incompetent. Took 3 tries to get our drinks and then they were still wrong! They even forgot one of the children's meals and instead of appologizing, they claimed it was not their fault. The ending was a grand finale with the manager dumping a pitcher of ice water down the back of a gentleman next to us. Will not return, will not recommend.
