Cuisine: Mexican/Tex MexPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: *** excellentNotes: Very nice, open look; huge booths
Food: **** superbNotes: True, authentic flavor
Service: *** excellentNotes: Attentive, but not cloying
Favorites: Chicken Enchilads w/ Verde Sauce, LuAnn Special
Comments: I moved here from Texas and let me tell you this is the ONLY decent Mexican restaurant in town - and I've been to all of the ones in Kansas City that appear on this list. All the others simply throw some hamburger and gobs of melted cheese together and call it Mexican! This place is a true Tex-Mex experience. (They have a Dallas location, so they know a little about this type of food.) The lunch specials are great and save room for the flan - it's awesome!

Favorites: Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas
Comments: Without a doubt, the best Mexican restaurant in Kansas City. I grew up in Texas, where Mexican food is king, and I don't understand why places like Ponak's and Margarita's are viewed as good restaurants. The other gentleman was correct...they slap some hamburger and cheese in a tortilla and call it Mexican food. Try the sour cream chicken enchiladas at Mi Cocina, they are great! The service is excellent and a laid-back atmosphere makes Mi Cocina a great dining experience.

Favorites: Bean soup
Comments: I to used to live in Taxas and can never find a Mexican restuaraunt close to the ones there. I was so impressed with the menu and especially the bean soup ( frijoles a la charra ) The bean soup was actually much better than I have ever had before in Texas. Excellent restuaraunt !!

Restaurant: Mi CocinaLocation: Plaza
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: noisy
Food: ** very goodNotes: great flavor, but overpriced drinks
Service: poorNotes: poor attention, rude
Favorites: Quesadillas
Comments: I was excited to try this place in search of a classy mexican dining experience. Unfortunately both times were not worth the money. The drinks are overpriced and the service was slow and inattentive. I thought the food was good, but when I only felt like ordering an appetizer for dinner the waiter looked at me like I was ruining his life, when really I just wanted to save room for dessert. Needless to say we did not stay for dessert.

Favorites: Definitely the combo plate which offers a great variety to my liking.
Comments: I first encountered Mi Cocina in a Dlaas trip and was thrilled to see it open in KC! I must tell you that it soon became not only one of my favorite restaurants, but a great spot to be for cocktails after the kitchen closes. I really enjoy the Combo plate, which gives the diner their wide choice of entrees. For something very different, try the Mohitos or the limos from the bar...very original drinks. Ricardo recently assisted in the opening of thier basement bar. Something for everyone and a attracts a top crowd of patrons.

Favorites: shrimp tacos, chicken enchiladas
Comments: My husband and I tried Mi Cocina for the first time when we went to KC for the weekend last month We liked it so much we went back a second time. The chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce were outstanding and a new dish (can't remember the name but essentially shrimp tacos) were unbelievable. We will definitely go back again!

Restaurant: Mi CocinaLocation: Country Club Plaza
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Kind of a South Beach feel
Food: **** superbNotes: Simply Fabulous
Service: *** excellentNotes: Very Friendly and Welcoming
Favorites: Chicken Enchiladas with Mole Sauce
Comments: This is one of the first places we ate at when we moved here. This is by far the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. I'm from the East Coast so not used to "real" Mexican food but think I could become addicted if anything like the food at Mi Cocinas. Also, we went with our 9 mth old and the wait staff was very accommodating and friendly.

Comments: Not many people know that this is a chain. It is a sorry excuse for Mexican if you ask me. I have been to this restaurant more than 10 times. Each time it has been a disappointment. If you want good Mexican, try El Maguey in Independence or Habanero's in Lee's Summit. Even the Salty Iguana in Prairie Village or Indep is better than Mi Cocina. I have to say that the decor is beautiful though

Comments: I lived four years in Dallas and can tell you that Mi Cocina is as good as it gets there - or anywhere else - for tex-mex. I was thrilled to find the Kansas City location is as great as the Dallas and Fort Worth outlets. I can't imagine that Kansas City has a better tex-mex eatery.

Favorites: Unable to enjoy meal.
Comments: Service was unually slow for a restaurant in the Plaza granted there was only two tables filled at 5:30PM. Once we got the menus we requested more time to look them over, we got more time -- about 12 minutes. We started with our 12 oz $1.50 pops (no refills) and went on to order their onion stacks called Fajitas. After the meal the waiter kindly asked if we wanted "flan", I said "Oh no we're full (to be kind)." He said, "Don't worry its small" NEED I SAY MORE. That was also my point. Small portions Large price tags. We are not selling Mercedes-Benz here.

Cuisine: Mexican(?)Price: $$ inexpensive

Food: * averageNotes: _
Service: * averageNotes: Somewhere between avg and good
Favorites: It all blends together in mediocrity
Comments: It is a mystery that they can stay in business considering what their lease payment must be! Lunch and dinner crowds are virtually non-existent (not a shock based on the lack of food quality). Night life does admittedly form a crowd. The downstairs "VIP" area is more accessible to you if you have dinner there (what does that tell you). They can, however, rejoice in not being the worst mexican restaurant on the Plaza. That distinction belongs to Baja 600, only because they have NO nightlife. The food is almost literally a "toss-up" between the two (if you know what I mean). Go eat at Rudy's Tenampa and then, if you must, go to Mi Cocina for its weekend nightlife.
