Comments: For over 50 years Acapulco has been serving some of the best Mexican food in Kansas City. It is a treasure that suprisingly many Mexican food fans haven't heard of. Give it a try. You won't be disapointed.

Restaurant: The Best BurritoLocation: Harrisonville, MO
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Very colorful, friendly atmosphere
Food: ** very goodNotes: Large servings and excellent taste
Service: *** excellentNotes: Service was fast and first rate. Very friendly.
Favorites: Queso fundido, fajitas, flan
Comments: The best Mexican food I had in awhile. Restaurant has only been open for a few weeks, per the manager, but should build a following in no time. Everything was made fresh and tasted delicious. Located in Harrisonville, MO but worth the drive from anywhere in the KCMO area.

Food: *** excellentNotes: Appealing to the eye, as well as the taste.
Service: *** excellentNotes: Very attentive
Favorites: Pecan-Crusted Crab Cakes, Poblano Chicken Chowder
Comments: I was in at lunchtime, so it was pretty crowded. It was worth the wait. The waiter was very helpful. The manager stopped to ask if everything was to my satisfaction. They have THE BEST crab cakes that I've had in K.C.

Service: poorNotes: Our waiter was very unfriendly.
Favorites:
Comments: Although the location and food were not bad, we were really disappointed with the service. Our waiter was not friendly at all (the other waiters/waitresses appear to look 'unhappy' too), and I thought the food was nothing special. Not sure if I'd recommend this place.

Restaurant: Chipotle GrillLocation: 40 Hwy at 291
Cuisine: Southwestern/MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Stainless steel tables; ever eat in a morgue?
Food: ** very goodNotes: Very high quality ingredients
Service: * averageNotes: counter service at sit down prices
Favorites: the burrito or wrap or whatever
Comments: Brand new restaraunt. Interior design by Vincent Price. Every table is a mortician's slab. Not a comfortable seat in the house. Every burrito is a custom made product. Somehow, they take a standard tortilla and pack nearly a quart of ingredients in it. Expect a blowout.

Restaurant: El PatioLocation: SW BLVD, KCMO
Cuisine: Mexican/ South AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Unique Summertime Feel
Food: *** excellentNotes: Good variety
Service: * averageNotes:
Favorites: Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
Comments: While I am from Texas, I am also Mexican, so I guess that qualifies to know this type of food. I have not seen El Patio get any publicity and don't know why. A little farther down Southwest Blvd then most of the other restaurants, this one has excellent ambience. Unlike some of the other restaurants, this one is upscale enough to bring a date. The food has a good range of Mexican and Latin American fare (Half of the menu is dedicated to each). Try the Mexican Shrimp cocktail- a spicier version of what you may be used to with avacadoes and cilantro. Sabroso!

Restaurant: El PueblitoLocation: South West Boulevard
Cuisine: Mexican- AuthenticPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: *** excellentNotes: Very Mexican...knowing some Spanish helps
Food: *** excellentNotes: Fresh and delicious. Authentic Mexican
Service: *** excellentNotes: Servers speak little English yet are extremely attentive
Favorites: Camarones al Mojo de Ajo
Comments: El Pueblito is definately a reccommendation if you have an aquired taste for REAL Mexican food. Very enjoyable...some servers limited on English, yet there is usually management or an owner to make sure there is no language barrier...just in case! No smoking and no margaritas, but the food, well,....... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Restaurant: El Sombreros Mexican RestaurantLocation: Claycomo Mo. 69 Highway
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: tackyNotes: loud, uncomfortable seating, booths at least 30 years old
Food: ** very goodNotes: Could be better, if served hot all the time
Service: poorNotes: rude, especially when asked to re-heat the food
Favorites: refried beans and rice
Comments: I used to love this restaurant. It was close to home. The people there used to be friendly, but they aren't anymore and the quality of the food is not as good as it was years ago. I have discovered there are alot more and better Mexican restaurants around town than El Sombrero's. What a pity.

Restaurant: El SombreroLocation: Claycomo
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: tackyNotes: I don't go for the atmosphere.
Food: *** excellentNotes:
Service: ** very goodNotes: Not polished, but attentive and very fast.
Favorites: Burritos and tacos are great.
Comments: I travel twenty minutes to go here... the food is all the reason I need!! Not your authentic Mexican, per se, but certainly authentic Mexican-American cuisine. Piping hot chips (still glistening with oil) and homemade sauce (that's right, not salsa... sauce) set the course for a hearty meal, full of the flavor of the Barrera family's kitchen (forty years in the same location, and still going strong.) Packed with kitsch and character, the location is low-key and low-brow; if you need to be coddled to enjoy a meal, kindly take your palate elsewhere.

Service: *** excellentNotes: they met all of my needs

Ambience: * averageNotes: comfortable mexican decor
Food: *** excellentNotes: favorful, served quick
Service: ** very goodNotes: always attentive, but not obtrusive
Favorites: mostly anything
Comments: Very good food, portions and price. Easy to find look for the yellow plane on top of the roof. Waits on weekends can be thirty minutes-and it is a large restaurant. That's how good it is.

Restaurant: La CantinaLocation: 24 Hwy at 291
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Mexican hats on the walls - Ole! Musica exotica!
Food: substandardNotes: This is Mexican? soggy enchiladas made with flour tortillas
Service: poorNotes: The good help moved on to greener pastures
Favorites: burrito grande/chicken quesadilla
Comments: After being greeted by a charming formally attired gentleman, your dining experience goes downhill rapidly. The wait-staff argues openly with boss, you are charged for requesting chips that aren't pulverized and you have to flap violently to get the waitresses attention. Each of the last 3 times we ate there we said we'd come back one more time to see if things got better. They haven't.

Restaurant: La Fonda El TaquitoLocation: 800 Southwest Blvd, KCMO
Cuisine: South of the BorderPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Noisy border-town bar scene feels like the real deal
Food: *** excellentNotes: Fresh ingredients and healthy rice and bean portions
Service: *** excellentNotes: Fast, fast, fast - but courteous
Favorites: Enchiladas
Comments: Located within easy striking distance of I-35, 670, Crown Center, and downtown KCMO, La Fonda is a convenient meal stop en route to most nights out in the city. For the taste and service it's a great bargain, too.

Food: *** excellentNotes: Exellent Tex-Mex
Service: *** excellentNotes: Great Service
Favorites: Chili Pork Burritos/Tacos
Comments: I have driven by this place so many times on my way to SW Blvd for Mexican Food but have never stopped in to check it out. Being from Texas I am totally spoiled (True authentic Tex-Mex) and expect alot. This place is about as good as your going to get in KC for mexican food. The food was excellent and the service was equally as good. This is not a place for the patrons who prefer Tequila Harrys type cuisine.(I have had better Patio Frozen Mexican Dinners!) GO CHECK THIS PACE OUT!
