Favorites: Chimichanga
Comments: I don't recommend takeout -- my chimichanga didn't have any sauce, sour cream, or guacamole on it, but whenever we eat in the restaurant the food is consistently very good. The service is very good too. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area.

Restaurant: Puffy TacoLocation: KC Northland, near KCI
Cuisine: MexicanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: tackyNotes: No frills ambience but they are trying!
Food: ** very goodNotes: Fresh, piping hot
Service: ** very goodNotes: Seems family-owned, staff is very personable
Favorites: Chile Rellenos, Puffy Margaritas
Comments: When I say no frills, I mean no frills. The non-smoking section even has fluorescent lighting, which is a little weird, but the food and service totally make up for it. When you sit down they bring you chips and 2 kinds of salsa, mild and hot (which is hot in temperature, and also very spicy in a slow-building sort of way). The Puffy margarita is great - almost a little tropical tasting, which explains the blue-green color. And you can get it in a birdbath size, great for 4 people and you can't beat the price. Many entrees come with beans and rice - the beans are not the typical glob of brick-red mash you get in most Mexican restaurants; I'm not sure what kind of beans they use here but they look almost blueish and they taste AWESOME. The food is a bit cheese-intensive, which can be good or bad depending on your preferences. All in all the informal atmosphere is really a fun and relaxed place to hang out and stuff yourself silly (and cheaply).

Comments: Heard about them on Walt Bodine's Friday food show a while ago on KCUR. Had to try them and was not displeased. From the outside, it looks like a tidied-up dive, don't let that put you off! I'm sure their other menu items are wonderful (they also serve sandwiches).
