Restaurant: Hereford HouseLocation: Town Center, Leawood, KS
Cuisine: SteakhousePrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: After being seated, drinks brought, we were asked to move.
Food: * averageNotes: Potato was cold, bread terrible
Service: poorNotes: NO BEVERAGE REFILLS!
Favorites: the chocolate cake, with ganache
Comments: Overall, I was very disappointed right from the beginning. We were asked to move to a different table, no problem for two, but moving an infant, highchair, drinks and all? Steaks were okay, but the potatoes, bread, service, etc. were not what we expected, especially for the ridiculous price. The service was exceptionally bad, very unattentive and unprofessional, not deserving of the 15% tip he received. Will mark this restaurant off our list and continue to wonder why this place receives so much attention.

Restaurant: Hereford HouseLocation: 119th St. Town Center / Leawood, KS
Cuisine: SteaksPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: tackyNotes: Very noisy & cramped dining area.
Food: substandardNotes: Expected USDA Choice meat-Received USDA Utility Grade
Service: poorNotes: Too many tables-Too few servers!!!
Favorites: Usually T-Bone Steaks or Prime Rib
Comments: This was our second visit to Hereford House hoping the first time was just a bad experience. Both times we have been disappointed! Our party of 3 usually spends $80.-$90. Our steaks were tough and not prepared as ordered. We tried this restaurant because Mike Murphy (KCMO Radio) speaks so highly of it. I'll not make this mistake again of believing any of this radio stations commercials or personalities.

Food: *** excellentNotes: Steak was terrific, chicken was surprisingly good
Service: **** superbNotes: very attentive, nice timing

Comments: The Hereford House downtown is great for lunch, but we liked the fancier Leawood restaurant for dinner. Great Steak as always just like their guarantee says. The twice baked potatoes are huge and delicious.

Restaurant: Hereford HouseLocation: Town Center, Leawood
Cuisine: Steak HousePrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Not an intimate setting
Food: * averageNotes: Not worth the price
Service: * averageNotes: Not as attentive as you would expect for the price
Favorites:
Comments: Quite expensive, with average service. We were a party of six seated at a long booth and had to serve ourselves as the waiter could not reach even half way across the booth. This was an inconvenience because the conversation was constantly stopped to serve ourselves or collect our dishes to hand to the waiter. Probably will not go back.

Comments: I don't understand the good reputation this place enjoys. The steaks are lean to the point of being tasteless and they apparently don't understand medium-rare. The meals are expensive, and both times I've been there the service has been poor. I won't be going back for a third visit.

Comments: We dined at Hereford House and quickly realized we'd made a big mistake! Do they import their beef from California? Where's the Kansas City beef? Surely not at Hereford House. They could at least serve chain saws with the meal. Hereford House is all a big hype.

Favorites: Nothing here is worth eating
Comments: My wife and I ate here over 20 years ago and it was a wonderful place -- but everything has changed. I don't see how they can stay in business with the type of food and service that they offer now -- it was very disappointing to know that what once was so great is now gone.

Comments: Went to the Indpendence location when I was told the downtown location was going to be closed for repairs that particular day. Had a reservation. Seated promply....food was good but the waiter had to reach accross us to serve us. Party of six in a booth when there were other regular tables available. Again food was good. Like the downtown version better since I like the old standby restaurants in Kansas City. Rod Anderson is doing a good job with his business.

Favorites: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Comments: I do not understand all the talk about this place. Seems as though everyone talks so highly of the Hereford House. It was our first and last time there--EVER! My steak had so much fat on it and was so undercooked I thought they just trimmed it off the cow, smacked it down on the fire for a minute and then to my plate. The incompetent waiter even spilled a drink in my friends lap. Guess how, trying to CLEAN the table WHILE we were eating!! Came with a rag & spray--WE WERE EATING!!! NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN WILL WE VISIT THIS HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE!

Comments: Had heard so much about this place I was looking forward to going, I was very disappointed. The inside was like being at a roadside coffee shop and the food was about the same. The NY Steak was small and tough, I hope Kansas City has better steaks somewhere.

Comments: Don't even bother, since the owner has turned the operations over to others there is little, if any, customer service, you're lucky if you get a smile when you go in the door or anywhere else, they had and early dinner special which was great but if you don't ask for the menu you'll never get it. The quality and service continues to slide down hill with no one running the operation. Try Nick and Jake's it's fun they are glad to see you and it's worth the price.

Comments: The Hereford House is supposed to be the best of KC's steakhouses. I have no idea why. While the atmosphere and staff are both excellent, I don't go out to eat just for atmosphere. I expected a thick, juicy steak and I got a thin slice of adequate beef. For the price, I expected a Top Choice or Choice grade steak, instead I got Select or worse which is what you can get at the low-end grocery store. I have had better steaks at casual dining chains such as Lonestar and Outback for less money.

Restaurant: Hereford HouseLocation: Overland Park
Cuisine: SteakPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: laid out like a chain
Food: * averageNotes: presentation lacked
Service: * averageNotes: they try to hard to turn over the tables
Favorites: beef tenderloin special
Comments: Was highly disappointed in this one. This was recommended to us. We picked the one in Overland Park cuz it was nicer looking. But once inside, it all went down hill. Except for the quality of the steak, I felt like I was in Outback Steakhouse! The inside was very chain-like, the house salad was made mostly of iceberg and had poor quality blue cheese dressing to go with it (a steakhouse should have some of the best blue cheese dressing in town since it's a good accompainment), the rolls were very substandard and "k-marty." Before we were even close to finishing our salads, our waitress brought us our steaks. Now, if we're paying such high prices for steaks, I want to be able to enjoy it and not have to rush through everything to enjoy it while it's warm. Needless to say, our salads were never finished and my husband's side dish got cold before he could eat it. Can't believe the waitress wasn't privy to us still eating our salads and hold off even showing up at our table. The very lest she could've done, was to offer to come back with our entrees when we were close to being ready.

Comments: The steaks and prime rib are still terrific. However, the "endless salad" is no more (and apparently hasn't been for about a year). What a disappointment! Now, one gets nickled and dimed (actually dollared) for a very standard salad, more for potato, more for veggies, more for mushrooms. You get the idea. However, best steak in KC.

Comments: I would not go back on a bet. The service staff cared so little for our party of 7 ( a guaranteed 20% tip from us due to size) that they couldn't be bothered to bring us menus or water. We left and went to Winsteads. Next time Plaza 3 will be our choice

Comments: Worst service of any good restaurant. Teen agers with an attitude. Decent food but surly service. We have finally given up eating there in spite of fact it is very close to our work. Final straw was a family dinner for 12. Great small dining rooms where we were left to cool our heels for 20-30 minute stretches. Dinner, cold as it was, lasted nearly three hours. Teenage server thought it was quite funny that anyone would expect warm food to be served. I now spend my time sharing this experience with my friends. So far I have diverted over a dozen friends from this fate worse than a bad Dennys.

Comments: This used to be my favorite steak house, but the past few times I have been there the food has been so poor, I cook better steaks on my backyard grill!!! there is absolutely no seasoning or flavor. Very fatty ... and a lot of grisel. I don't know what happened, but when we want steak, I cook it myself.
